A senior member at UK WW forum made an observation about social networking sites based on his experience of how some users of social networking site Squidoo has been promoting their site using other social networking sites and forums, excerpts follows:

With so many social networks to choose from their are some do’s and don’t’s you should pay some attention to. Most if it makes perfect sense, but it’s hopefully worth repeating.

Don’t just join a social network for the purpose of dropping a load of links to your sites/pages. - This is often seen as spamming by genuine members of web 2.0 networks.

He went on to offer the following suggestions as to how to interact at social networking sites:

Do take part in discussions that you can contribute to. Be active and share your knowledge.

Only leave links to your site when relevant. The worst and most popular example of this is - blah on topic blah on topic blah off topic link to my site. Another example of this is just replying to a thread, page, comment, etc, in order to leave your signature link behind.

You can read his full post at the social media section of UK WW forum.

Many big names in news industry have announced the launch of Mozilla Firefox 3 RC 3. This prooves the browser has become really popular lately and with the help of the community behind it - it becomes stronger and stronger each day. For example SP news says

Firefox 3.0 Release Candidate 3 is now available for download. With this release, Mozilla inches closer to the availability
of the final version of Firefox 3.0. The RC3 build really managed to come out of nowhere, as the initial plan was to shoot directly for the gold release from RC2. In fact, Mozilla has managed to say very little about RC3 in comparison to the previous candidate. However, one thing not made public was the impact delivered by RC3, an additional stage in the development process to the original plans related to the official release of Firefox 3.0. Ahead of RC3, Mozilla pointed to mid-June 2008 for the availability of Firefox 3.0.

So IE should better whatch out, because Firefox will soon become number one browser in the top of the most used browsers in the world. And we are not talking only about the advanced web users or webdevelopers ( which may use the extra tools and addons the browser website provides ) but of the casual internet user.

We all know some of the many internet social systems websites around the world. Some of us are even members of these systems and enjoy participating with new articles, micro blog posts and even pictures.

Some persons though, found in social systems a way of creating websites with a lot of traffic. And actually, the website is running its self, all the owners have to do is work 1 hour a day on selecting some pictures and posting them on the website with some funny comments.

This seems quite easy eah ? Well, let me tell you all about it then. In Romania one of the most used Social Systems is Hi5. There, users can post images, write blogs, post video from youtube, add comments to pictures and all these stuff you can do on really any other system of this kind. Now, nothing special until now, right ? Everyone uses hi5, how can I get traffic for my website ?

Well, on this hi5 there are all kind of pictures with girls on boys that dress funny, have a funny attitude or try to look sexy but instead they look awful. So, someone though selecting few of these pictures, creating a website, posting the pictures ( already available on hi5 ) and adding their own comment on these pictures. After the while, the website got so popular that the users/visitors started to search for pictures and send email to the owners of the website.

From what I understand now, the owners of these websites have that many pictures that their websites will run with fresh content a loooong time further.

So, I said something about the traffic, below is a nice image of how much visitors you can get with a WordPress using website and some pictures.

So if you would like to develop, here’s an ideea.

Squidoo is described by different people as different things, some think its like wikipedia, others thing its excellent for building backlink, yet others use it to generate revenue.

UK WW member ROO who uses Squidoo successfully for various things have this to say about his experience with using Squidoo:

Very possibly if I could focus on a particular niche! Instead I find squidoo great for developing my ’skills’ at web publishing, treating each page as a mini-site on the subject that catches my imagination at the time. Also it allows me to experiment with niches that I may develop into websites in future. Meanwhile I have no web hosting charges or do I have to search and pay for a relevant URL, and squidoo pages usually get googled and start getting traffic within days of publishing.

Other UK WW users have a different take on Squidoo, you can join in the most convinient ways:

Google’s crusade again paid link and its unpopular penalty again web directories is a subject of one of the lively discussions at UK Webmaster World forum, among the exchanges one of the memebers, OWG sets out steps that could lead to a website being banned, the steps follows:

Google are getting really good at disguising how they handle sites selling paid links, and are quite happy to handle this manually as well in the following manner.

1. Someone (probably one of your competitors ) reports your site for selling links
2. Flag raised
3. Link map created for your site and cross referenced to other reported sites
4. Human visits site
5. Human applies Page rank flow block to site(s)
6. Pages drop like flies
7.? what next, what to do now?

In the old days it was simple. You lost your page rank, you lost all your pages in the index! Google get smart though, they are trying to undermine the entire ’selling pagerank’ network thing.

You say it is easy to get PR if you are using your own sites, the danger of that is that Google are quite happy to bring down a network as they are to bring down a single site.

UKwebUK is a UK web directory which features many websites and
businesses from all across the United Kingdom. UKwebUK is intended to be
a highly valuable resource of family friendly websites and services
aimed at the casual web user and also the many UK webmasters who are
looking to get their sites noticed. This UK web directory is not only a haven
for commercial sites but also for the many other types of websites out
there that offer information, services and advice to the UK public.

Very much time and effort has been put into UKwebUK in order to achieve
a quality resource of UK based websites. All submissions are carefully
human reviewed and checked to ensure that they follow the criteria to be
listed. But it does not stop there we are on the look out for useful,
informative quality uk websites, if they meet the listing criteria and
offer an outstanding service they may well be added manually.

The basic criteria to be listed as follows:

* Must be uk related.
* Domain containing “UK” preferred but not essential.
* Description must clearly describe what is offered to UK
residents/consumers.
* Services offered are for UK residents.

This is only the outline of what to expect. For a more detailed view
please refer to the Submission Guidlines.

What else do we offer?
The UKDestinations category is soon to have all the information, guides
and links to accommodation at all the most attractive locations from
around the UK. To make your search easier there is also a section
listing all UK counties.
Herein you will find a list of all 86 counties in the United Kingdom
designed for websites which offer services on a local level. For example
you own a business in Lancashire you may choose this section to be
listed if you want to target people in your area rather than the entire
UK. Similarly tourist or attraction sites may also want to be listed
based on their area.

UKwebUK has a section for Travel Abroad, while these listings will
inevitably contain destinations outside of the UK it is intended for
websites that are targeting UK residents, such as those destinations
that are popular with the UK public.

Whatever kind of website or business you are running if it is family
friendly, UK based and aimed to please you will be welcomed with open
arms at UKwebUK web directory. We strongly urge you to submit your site
